The update of the Gender-Based Violence Standard Operating Procedures (GBV SOPs) is rooted in ABAAD’s recognition of the evolving landscape of GBV challenges in Lebanon. The original SOPs, developed in 2018 with the support of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was a comprehensive effort to address GBV at the national level and was a crucial initiative towards establishing a unified response to gender-based violence in Lebanon. As Lebanon continued to undergo significant social and political changes, it became increasingly clear that the SOPs needed to be revised to remain relevant and reflective of the country’s current realities and the recent developments. The collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs was critical, marking a significant step towards institutionalizing the response to GBV at the national level. Looking forward, the next steps involve the operationalization of the updated SOPs through a detailed roadmap that outlines the implementation ensuring that it is integrated into the work of all relevant ministries and actors involved in GBV response. This commitment to updating, launching, and operationalizing the GBV SOPs demonstrates Lebanon’s ongoing dedication to addressing gender-based violence, ensuring that the systems in place are equipped to offer effective, survivor-centered support in a constantly changing environment.
